2008-11-06 - Angkor 3 - Terraces

Still inside Angkor Thom, we have three terraces – basically low stone structures that are decorated walkways. There is one long walkway from the Baphoun to the Leper King terrace, the Leper King Terrace and then the Elephant Terrace.
Monks on the terrace that leads to the Baphoun - the crouching one is taking photos of the left one on his mobile phone

Mowing the lawn - with a flexi-machette - there is a lot of grass here

Lion that fell off its pedastal, part of a small and steep temple near the terraces

Elephant terrace steps

Another terrace, this time garudas (mythical birds) are holding it up

More elephant terrace

And again

Several of the terraces appear to have been re-modelled over time, with new facades built in front of the old, with a gap between, seen here

Carvings on top of the elephant terrace

Another terrace, this time with a layered carving

Naga head among the pile of spare stones

Small temple

Back of one of the later facade walls, which has been re-inforced with modern cement - seems the newer facades were built using spare carved stones from earlier work

Another covered-over terrace facade, also layered and with a rare 9-headed naga (usually it's only 7 heads or less)
