2008-11-06 - Angkor 6 - Angkor Wat

Well, we had finally arrived at Angkor Wat itself – it was only about 2pm, but had already been a long day. Angkor Wat (Angkor means city, Wat means temple) is a square moat surrounding a square wall. Inside the wall is a long causeway that leads from the outside of the moat through the wall, past 2 libraries and to the temple proper. The temple proper is a large square corridor with all those carvings along the inside wall, containing 3 taller layers inside, each layer being essentially a square corridor and some towers on the corners. Finally in the middle is the biggest and tallest tower, which was of course closed for restoration.
