Still plenty more to come. There is the odd touch of “developing country with something to prove” on the floats – for example, some include people sitting at desks working away on computers, or students being taught at school in front of the world’s most elegantly written-up whiteboard. And of course the taxis (last post) and tractors here – “we have mechanised farming”!
The usual setup was 2 people up the front holding a sign saying (in Khmer) what they were, then the float with optional people waling beside it, then a cohort of what I guess are the regular staff that work in the department or organisation. An added part of the amusement for the barangs is trying to figure out which department it was – some had the name in English, but the others let the contents of their float do the talking (or confusing).
Stuff in the back
Ministry of infrastructure or similar - the dam has water flowing over it
Rice farmers
Another infrastructure type ministry
Ministry of bambi?
Banners for the VIPs
Something to do with Cambodian exports
Pictures and samples
Ministry of economics and finance
Only a finance ministry would have bar charts on their float
Another finance type ministry - the symbol in the middle is the symbol for Riel - Cambodian dollar sign
Transport ministry - big white thing is a map of the national roads (1 to 6)
This is quite a good float - the background scrolls so it looks like the trucks / trains are moving
